Caitie is an Omaha native, and youngest member of inCOMMON Community Development. After high-school she studied Sociology and Religion at Augustana College in the frozen tundra of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Her time in Sioux Falls was quite serendipitous to say the least. Despite a challenging and inspiring educational environment, Caitie grew particularly fond of her endeavors outside the classroom (which greatly decreased time spent in class!) During this time she was especially impacted by an older community of Peace Activists; the Benedictine Sisters, members of All Souls Unitarian Church, the South Dakota Peace and Justice Center, Dr. Richard Swanson, Dorthea Day’s writings of the Catholic Worker Movement, and her childhood hero Jane Goodall, whom she met in 2007. Caitie spent many Saturday afternoons learning about real things while protesting the Iraqi Occupation on the steps of the Sioux Falls Federal Courthouse.

In 2008, Caitie escaped the winter for a sunnier spot in India. During her stay in Hyderabad she met poet and advocate for the poor and oppressed, Jameela Nishat, and fell in love with the Shaheen Centre for Women. At the Centre, Caitie experienced the realities of our gendered world and the sex-trafficking industry, sought to truly accompany others, and depart from structures that support such atrocities. It was at this point that she felt compelled to return to Omaha.

Caitie describes herself as “painfully idealistic,” and believes a better world is possible. She wishes to live in community with others; in a world where trees and greens grow through the cracks in the pavement. Needless to say, Caitie was blessed to join the inCOMMON Community Development Staff, and share in their commitment to relationships, accompaniment, and mindfulness.

These days, Caitie enjoys quiet moments on her front porch across from the Gifford Park Community Garden. She loves tea and delicious food cooked with friends.
