Katie came on staff at inCOMMON in February 2007. She was initially introduced to inCOMMON through CommonTable (previously called Life on the Brick) in late 2005 as she was looking for ways to serve and be in relationship with the poor here in Omaha. She immediately felt at home within this community of people that valued relationship as much, if not more, than the service of meeting the immediate needs of the guests.
During this time, a vision and dream was coming to life in Katie’s heart. She had been working in the corporate finance world for many years, and although she enjoyed it, she knew it was not the fulfillment of what she was created to do. In the fall of 2006, Katie quit her job of many years and went overseas for four months to live life with the poor in service to Christ. Although unsure of what was to come after her return, she knew she wanted to hold to her ideal of serving the poor relationally. When she returned to Omaha, she felt embraced once again by the inCOMMON Community and was offered a staff position as an AmeriCorps VISTA, which she excitedly accepted!
Katie’s role at inCOMMON has included many different areas of service. Currently she handles all financial record keeping, coordinates the CommonLife ministry, and lends her hands and heart to administrating and caring for the CommonTable community. Katie’s AmeriCorps term ended in June of 2008, and since then she has been raising support to be a staff member at inCOMMON. She also went back to school for the first time in MANY years in June of 2008 and is pursuing a degree in Social Work, which will enhance her ability to serve the community she is living among.
