email Zach, Neighborhood Advocate

Zach Harmon recently joined the inCommon family as a Neighborhood Advocate. Zach is a native resident of Omaha, and he believes strongly in the vision of creating community and partnerships with those in our neighborhoods and within the city!

Directly out of high-school, Zach spent a year with two of his best friends in Peshwar, Pakistan, teaching English and traveling. This trip forever left an indelible mark on how he would see the world and think about struggle and poverty. For the next four years, Zach attended Grace University and in 2005  received his Bachelors Degree in Biblical Studies and Church Leadership.

After graduating, he led a rather nomadic lifestyle, jumping from place to place and job to job. In 2006, he was an Assistant House parent at a group home for at-risk youth. At the same time, he began pursuing a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, with a Non-Profit emphasis. In February of 2008, Zach was invited to intern with the John M. Perkins Foundation and this took things to a new level. The vision moved beyond working at a non-profit to wanting to join a group of people who believed in the Christian Community Development model.

Additionally, Zach is a huge movie buff…he laughs at sappy romances, and gets choked up at guy flicks like Braveheart and Fight Club. He also loves urban verse, both books and rhymes, and occasionally attempts to write it. Music has been one of his greatest passions since picking up a bass in high school. He now pretends to play guitar, as well as dabbles in playing in local coffee shops and bars.
