Who We Are

Coral Del Mar Nieves
Workforce Coordinator

Coral was born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico to a tight-knit family full of helpers. From a young age, her mother and grandparents imprinted upon her the importance of helping others – be it with a kind word, a kind gesture or a kind thought. She has fond memories of volunteering at the VA Hospital in San Juan starting in Elementary School as her mom worked long hours as a nurse. That early experience, coupled with additional experiences throughout her life, solidified her passion for helping others.

She received her Bachelor’s in History and Literature in English from the University of Puerto Rico – Rio Piedras. She completed her Master’s in International Relations and International Communication from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia with hopes of one day working at the UN, but quickly discovered she preferred more grassroots work where she could connect directly with underprivileged populations. Teaching ESL and volunteering afforded her wonderful connections and friendships that allowed her to learn about new perspectives. She came to Omaha in May 2010 where she realized that her own Hispanic/Latino community had needs that were hard to address and came to the conclusion that her favorite part of teaching was talking to people about their lives. She is currently a year away from completing a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from UNO. She joined inCOMMON in June 2020 to continue her work as Workforce Coordinator in the community.

Coral is married to Franco, who is from Mexico, and they have a daughter, Evelina Borikén, born in December 2019. They are also expecting a little boy in December 2020 who may or may not share the same birthdate as his sister. Life is full of fun surprises!
