Josefina and her five children moved to the U.S. in 2001, and has lived in Park Avenue for the past decade. She got involved with inCOMMON in early 2023 as she was seeking support to successfully pass her Citizenship interview. Because undergoing the Citizenship process for a second time presented a financial strain on Josefina’s resources, inCOMMON was not only able to immediately register her for our Citizenship class but provide her with a 50% scholarship toward the cost of her interview and exam.
As Josefina worked hard in preparation for her second Citizenship interview, she pursued additional opportunities for personal and professional development. One of these opportunities was inCOMMON’s Local Leader School, where participants are trained on various topics related to Civic Leadership with the goal of leading change in their neighborhood. As a result of her diligence and strong work ethic, Josefina graduated from Local Leader School in 2023 and obtained her Citizenship in 2024!
Becoming a U.S. Citizen has meant so much to Josefina and her family. With her new Citizenship status, she is now able to make secure plans for the future for herself and her family, as well as visit her daughter and other loved ones who remain in Mexico. The inCOMMON team is so impressed with Josefina’s example of hard work and perseverance, and so grateful to have her leadership in Park Avenue for many years to come!
